Prioritising Long Term Sustainability
Sustainability’s theory arises from the need to manage natural resources and utilise them efficiently for maximum satisfaction. The sustainable theory proposes this by keeping renewable or reusable materials for future use.
Sustainability is often associated with three areas of development which are economic, environmental, and social. The main goal of Sustainability development is to preserve the existence of man, especially the coming generation.
Economic Sustainability Development
Economic Sustainability leads to a stable flow of income, better interaction between demand and supply. It involves processes that favour both the present and the past. It is an economic assumption that the means to satisfy our wants are limited. Hence, one must efficiently utilise them.
It refers to how relationships and society, in general, can be improved. It encompasses subject matters such as law, equality, discrimination, Unity, security, and stability.
Human activities have been attributed to the depletion occurring in the Ozone layer and, thus, climate change. Therefore, we can push environmental sustainability through green technology and innovations.
A possible solution and step to achieving long-term sustainability are through an integrated approach. An integrated approach is that which combines tools to combat adaptation as well as mitigation for outstanding outcomes. These two processes must be recognised as two unified processes. Sustainability tools must be sufficient to make man adapt while creating a subsidiary to mitigate odds.
Australia is faced with specific long-term sustainability issues that have been ignored or not paid much attention to. These issues are majorly environmental, although sustainability is associated with social and economics too.
The Issues Facing Australia
Man’s activity, such as the burning of fossil fuels, has continued to contribute to greenhouse gas production and, consequently, loss of biodiversity. On the other hand, loss of biodiversity would lead to a significant loss in economic value.
Health is a fundamental factor in measuring the living condition of any society. Health care tips are needed to prevent illness outbreaks and reduce medical costs. It is, in fact, particular to children and young people in a community.
It refers to the gap between the rich and the poor. In Australia, poverty is one of the problems that is identifiable with the locals. Therefore, the government must make conscious efforts to eradicate or reduce it.
Education plays a crucial role in the future of any nation. Availability of good educational services boosts a country’s future labour force, enhances continuous economic growth, and reduces the crime rate.
Indigenous Australia is a term used to refer to the aboriginals and the Torres Strait islanders. They are the first set of people identified with Australia, and their history can be traced to several centuries ago. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders consist of people of various cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
Interrelationship with Neighbouring Regions
Australia must collaborate with regions such as Asia. Hence, the educational system should include the study of Asian language and culture.
Improvements in Infrastructural Facilities
The country can solve all these issues through cooperation among all levels of government.
The government should prioritise
- Prioritise longer-term issues
- Take urgent actions on priorities.
- Utilise various tools for the achievement of longer-term goals.
